(Brasil).-The Chamber of Deputies' Financial Supervision and Control Committee will hold a public hearing today, to discuss transferring federal lottery operations to a subsidiary of Caixa Econômica Federal.
The CEO of Caixa Loterias, Lucíola Aor Vasconcelos, has confirmed her participation in the meeting that is going to be held today. The public hearing was requested by federal deputy Tadeu Veneri (PT-PR).
“We express our concern about this measure, because we know that Caixa's lotteries have been fundamental in reducing social inequalities in the country, by transferring resources to social policies. Around 40 per cent of Caixa Loterias‘ profits go towards investments in health, education and social projects,” argues the parliamentarian.
In April, Caixa's Board of Directors approved the transfer of the bank's lottery activities to Caixa Loterias S.A., a wholly-owned subsidiary.
Caixa exclusively operates the lottery games service. However, it has faced competition from online bookmakers, known as bets.
Better lottery options viables
Councillor Jakson Charles (PSB) announced in the gallery during Monday's (3 June) session that the Executive has contracted a company to carry out a study that will identify the best type of public lottery to be established in the city.
“On June 10, the company will present this data to the board formed to discuss this issue, chaired by Eduardo Milke, president of Issa”, Jakson said. He recalled that the law that created the municipal lottery was of his authorship, together with president Dominguinhos do Cedro (PDT).
“The lottery was created so that all its benefits will go to Issa, which will be an important measure to balance the pension institute of municipal officials,” Jakson said.
“We know that the Issa problem will not be solved by one administration. I have been telling the mayoral candidates what proposal each one has to solve the problem of Annapolis, including Issa. So far I have had no response," the councilman added.
As a legislator, Jakson said he is demanding that mayor Roberto Naves (Republicans) take action to make Issa viable, just as he demanded in the past from then mayors João Gomes (PSD, later PT) and Antônio Gomide (PT). “That is the councillor's obligation, to demand that the administration's finances be balanced.”
